Additionally, these figures represent a <strong>1 percent drop compared to April of this year<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Government of the Balearic Islands indicates that <strong>100% of the archipelago&#8217;s territory<\/strong> remains in a <strong>pre-alert situation<\/strong> with no <strong>short-term change expected<\/strong>. This <strong>concerning scenario<\/strong> underscores the need for <strong>continuous monitoring<\/strong> and <strong>prudent management<\/strong> of water resources, according to the Balearic Executive.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-106709 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/2024_6_7_3039120.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"513\" height=\"513\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/2024_6_7_3039120-768x768.webp 768w, https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/2024_6_7_3039120.webp 780w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 513px) 100vw, 513px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In terms of the index&#8217;s evolution, <strong>eight out of ten<\/strong> Demand Units (UD) have recorded a <strong>decrease<\/strong> in their reserves: Art\u00e0, Manacor-Felanitx, es Pla, Palma-Alc\u00fadia, Tramuntana Nord, Tramuntana Sud, Eivissa, and Formentera. Menorca has remained stable, while the Migjorn UD has experienced an increase in its reserves. Regarding the <strong>percentage of reserves by island<\/strong>, <strong>Mallorca<\/strong> has dropped from <strong>55% to 53%<\/strong>, <strong>Menorca<\/strong> from <strong>52% to 51%<\/strong>, and <strong>Eivissa<\/strong> from <strong>37% to 36%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>A dry and warm month of May<\/h2>\n<p>According to the data from the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), May was <strong>dry in terms of precipitation<\/strong>, recording an average of <strong>18.2 l\/m\u00b2<\/strong>, well below the <strong>historical average of 31.9 l\/m\u00b2<\/strong>. Breaking it down by islands, Menorca had a <strong>normal<\/strong> month with 22.4 l\/m\u00b2 compared to its historical average of 26.3 l\/m\u00b2. In Mallorca, rainfall was <strong>scarce<\/strong>, with 20.1 l\/m\u00b2 compared to the historical 34.4 l\/m\u00b2. Eivissa and Formentera experienced an <strong>extremely dry<\/strong> month, with only 2.2 l\/m\u00b2 and 2.0 l\/m\u00b2 respectively, compared to their historical averages of 23.6 l\/m\u00b2 and 17.1 l\/m\u00b2.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>year-over-year analysis<\/strong> of precipitation shows that the Balearic Islands have reached <strong>79% of the expected average<\/strong>, with Mallorca at 80%, Menorca at 80%, and the Piti\u00fcses at 65%.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding <strong>temperatures<\/strong>, May has been <strong>warm<\/strong>, with an average temperature of <strong>18.6\u00b0C<\/strong>, which is <strong>0.5\u00b0C above<\/strong> the usual average.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The water reserves in the Balearic Islands experienced a 7 <a href=\"https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/en\/water-reserves-balearic-islands-may\/\"> [&#8230;]<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":105668,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1520],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-106712","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-environment"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.2 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Balearic water reserves fall to 52% by May 2024 - Mallorca Global Mag<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"The islands&#039;
