A total of 3,800 athletes will participate on Saturday 11 May in the Zafiro IRONMAN 70.3 Alc\u00fadia – Mallorca, the first race in Europe of the IRONMAN Pro Race Series 2024. The 13th edition of this event organised by The IRONMAN Group will have an economic impact of more than 10 million euros and will be broadcast around the world 24 hours a day on the DAZN platform and the IRONMAN Pro Series website.<\/p>\n

The port of Alc\u00fadia will be the initial stage that will kick off this triathlon event with the swimming segment. At 7:35am the men’s professional triathletes will start and at 7:40am it will be the turn of the elite triathletes to tackle a 1.9 kilometre course starting on the town’s spectacular beach, well protected from the waves by its bay. From 7:55am it will be the turn of the age groups.<\/p>\n

The mayoress of Alc\u00fadia, Josefina Linares Capo, highlighted the importance of the Zafiro IRONMAN 70.3 Alc\u00fadia-Mallorca during the presentation of the event “because of the economic value and what the athletes spend between a week and ten days. In addition, triathletes come in other seasons to practice their sport, because we have a climate that allows them to do it all year round”. For his part, the Councillor for Tourism of the Mallorcan town, Joan Mateu Gual, pointed out that “everyone, from anywhere, will be able to see what we offer, what we do for sustainability and sports tourism”.<\/p>\n

The general director of IRONMAN Southern Europe, Agust\u00ed P\u00e9rez, has remarked “the requirement of organising a race of this magnitude, with the help of the whole territory and their generosity that they have with this event to make a daily cut of a circuit that is really incredible. It is a perfect territory for the participants and a unique destination, which combines sports tourism and what we leave on a social level”.<\/p>\n

Around 80 professional triathletes will also be present at the race, among them the British Emma Pallant-Browne, winner of the IRONMAN Sapphire 70.3 Alc\u00fadia – Mallorca 2022 and IRONMAN 70.3 Mossel Bay 2023 (South Africa); the German Laura Philipp, winner of IRONMAN 70.3 Mallorca in 2016 and 2027, IRONMAN 70.3 Tallinn and Kraichgau 2023; and the Italian Giorgia Priarone, winner of IRONMAN 70.3 Maine 2023.<\/p>\n

Philipp said he is “really looking forward to racing in Mallorca again, the course is one of the most beautiful in the IRONMAN series and having this bike course closed to traffic is special. I can’t wait for Saturday”, he said.<\/p>\n

In the men’s category, among other triathletes, the Norwegian Gustav Iden, IRONMAN Hawaii 2022 World Champion; the German Jan Stratmann, second in the IRONMAN 70.3 Valencia 2024 held recently; and his compatriot Patrick Lange, who was second in the IRONMAN World Championships in Nice, will participate.<\/p>\n
