Palma Town Hall has set up the lifeguard, safety and personalised attention service for assisted bathing on the six beaches of the municipality more than a month in advance. The operative, which began on Saturday the 23rd of March, in contrast to previous years when it began on the 1st of May, will remain active until the 31st of October.<\/p>\n

One of the main new features is the increase in the number of watchtowers, from 16 to 18 in total, strategically distributed around Palma’s beaches. In addition, the hours of surveillance have been extended to adapt to the influx of bathers “in a more realistic way”, according to the Town Hall.<\/p>\n

Safety measures on the beaches<\/h2>\n

The surveillance service will be supported by a wide range of resources, including a semi-rigid inflatable boat, jet skis, an ambulance, a rapid intervention vehicle and a vehicle with a trailer for transporting personnel and equipment. In total, at least 40 people, including 18 lifeguards, are expected to be on duty on the beaches for the full time.<\/p>\n

This year, also as a new feature and as part of the measures to improve service and safety on Palma’s beaches, the toilet and bathing facilities at Ciutat Jardi and Can Pere Antoni have been replaced, and new beacons have been installed at Portixol and Paseo del Molinar. They will also be installed in the coming days in the areas of Es Carnatge and Cala Gamba.<\/p>\n
