In this sense, the Balearic Islands will receive 43 million euros to finance the free public transport in 2024. The Council of Ministers has approved a decree that extends for next year the main measures that were approved after the Covid crisis and the war in Ukraine. The abolition of VAT on staple foods, including bread, flour, cheese, milk and eggs, as well as vegetables and fruit, will be maintained. Pensions will go up by 3.8%. For its part, the VAT on electricity will go to 10% in 2024, after almost two years with the levy at 5%.<\/p>\n
Finally, the bus of Palma, the EMT, will remain free in 2024, as confirmed this morning by the councilor of Mobilitat, Antonio Deudero. The Council of Ministers approved yesterday, Wednesday, a decree that extends for 2024 the main measures that were approved after the Covid crisis and the war in Ukraine, among these the continuity of free public transport in the Balearic and Canary Islands. The omnibus decree (which affects different areas) fixes an allocation of 43 million, which will be included in the 2024 Budget. These 43 million euros will be received by the Autonomous Community, which will have to transfer an amount, 18 million if they are the same as up to now, so that the gratuity is extended to EMT buses.<\/p>\n
In parallel, the Government has already transferred to the Balearic Islands the part corresponding to this year’s agreement. The 2024 Budget will also include the agreement for the tramway.<\/p>\n
