From 12 noon, the candidate for the presidency of the Government, Pedro S\u00e1nchez, faces the investiture debate to present his program without time limit. Sanchez counts on 179 votes and the guarantee of the support of Junts and ERC after registering the amnesty law in Congress to revalidate the presidency. 1,600 police officers shield the security of the Congress today and tomorrow.<\/p>\n

More than 1,600 agents participate in the security device for the debate of the investiture of Pedro S\u00e1nchez between today Wednesday November 15 and tomorrow Thursday November 16 in the Congress of Deputies. It is a device similar to the one that the Ministry of Interior programs for the celebration of high-risk soccer matches.<\/p>\n

In this sense, the spokesperson of the Government in functions, Isabel Rodr\u00edguez, has warned: “Who questions the investiture, questions democracy”. Rodriguez also explained that the right to demonstrate and its constitutional respect “excludes any kind of violence”.<\/p>\n

Where to watch S\u00e1nchez’s investiture debate<\/h2>\n

After the failed attempt of the ‘popular’ Alberto N\u00fa\u00f1ez-Feij\u00f3o last September, today the speech of the socialist candidate will start the debate at 12 noon. S\u00e1nchez, who has the support of Sumar, ERC, Junts, Bildu, PNV, BNG and Coalici\u00f3n Canaria, will present his government program and request the confidence of the lower house.<\/p>\n

Next, the representatives of the parliamentary groups will take the floor to set a position. PP will speak first, followed by Vox, Sumar, ERC, Junts, EH Bildu, PNV, the Mixed Parliamentary Group (BNG, Coalici\u00f3n Canaria and UPN) and, finally, PSOE. S\u00e1nchez will be able to reply to the different groups with a maximum time of 10 minutes.<\/p>\n

The first vote is expected to be held tomorrow, Thursday. At this point, S\u00e1nchez needs the absolute majority of the Congress, that is to say, the affirmative vote of 176 deputies. The acting President of the Government starts with 179 votes in favor of his investiture.<\/p>\n

If he does not succeed, 48 hours later, on Saturday, November 18, there will be a second vote, in which the candidate would only need a simple majority, that is, more votes in favor than against. If he does not succeed either, elections would have to be repeated on January 14.<\/p>\n
