The works for the integral renovation project of Plaça Espanya in Palma have a new completion date: 23 August 2024. The Junta de Govern has approved new provisions in relation to the contract, awarded on 21 December 2022 to the company Melchor Mascaró, setting this extension of the deadline for the execution of the contract, which was set for 31 July 2024. Municipal sources point out that a report from the municipal Intervention and legal services is not necessary to approve the agreement, as the contract price is not increased.

The slight change in the deadline for completion of the works is due to various unforeseen events not attributable to the contractor, which have made it necessary to recalculate the duration of the works. These unforeseen events include the fall of a tree that broke a pipe and changes in the location of traffic lights and street lamps, affecting the progress of the company in charge of the Avingudes refurbishment.

The spokesperson for the government team, Mercedes Celeste, stressed that these are ‘obstacles unforeseen by the contractor, which is why the council considers a minimal extension of the project’s deadline to be reasonable’.
