A total of 28,324 people were unemployed in June in the Balearic Islands, which represents a fall of 1.7% compared to the previous year, according to the labour force survey (EPA) released today
The number of unemployed in the Balearic Islands has fallen by 476 people in June 2023 compared to the previous month, to a total of 28,324 unemployed people, which represents a decrease of 1.65 percent compared to the previous year.
Likewise, compared to May 2022, the number of unemployed in the islands has decreased by 5,924 people, a fall of 17.30 percent year-on-year, the main drop.
By sex and age, of the total number of unemployed in the Balearic Islands, 11,752 are men and 16,752 are women. Among the unemployed under 25 (2,286), unemployment affects more men (1,236) than women (1,050).
The services sector reduces the number of unemployed
By economic sector, the services sector recorded the highest number of unemployed (20,593, although there were 524 fewer unemployed), followed by Construction (3,605), Industry (1,355) and Agriculture (364). Among foreigners, unemployment fell in June compared to the previous month by -3.98% and by -20.37% compared to June 2022 to 5,070 foreign unemployed.
In terms of the number of contracts, 49,221 contracts were signed in the Balearic Islands in June, a fall of -8.92% (-4,822) compared to May and -16.99% (-10,074) compared to June 2022.
Of the total number of contracts signed (49,221), 36,596 were permanent and 12,625 were temporary. Thus, permanent contracts fell by 12.39% compared to May and by 18.22% compared to the previous year. On the other hand, temporary contracts increased in June compared to May by 2.88% and compared to the sixth month of 2022, they fell by 13.20%. Thus, up to June of this year, 221,743 contracts were signed in the Balearic Islands (165,628 permanent contracts, 74.69%, and 56,115 temporary contracts, 25.31%).
In the Balearic Islands, most of the contracts signed in June (44,847) were signed in the services sector.
The Balearic Islands are the second region with the highest number of Social Security registrations
The islands have become the second autonomous community with the highest number of Social Security affiliates, after adding 20,889 affiliates in June, only behind Catalonia, which has 26,548 affiliates.
In Spain as a whole, Social Security gained an average of 54,541 contributors in June compared to the previous month (+0.26%), which took the system to a new all-time high of 20,869,940 employed people, according to data published on Tuesday by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration.
