With 68,600 fewer unemployed in the second quarter of the year, the Balearic Islands is the second community in the country, only behind Catalonia (70,400 fewer unemployed), where unemployment has fallen the most in recent months, according to figures from the Labour Force Survey, which highlights the increase in employment in the archipelago between April and June (108,100).

With these data and an activity rate of 65.01%, the Balearic Islands is the second community with the lowest unemployment rate in the second quarter (7.15%) and the third community where activity has increased the most, with 39,500 more active people. On a percentage basis, employment has grown by 4.55% compared to the same period of the previous year. Compared with the first quarter, the figures show an increase of 20.31%, the highest in the whole country.

Spain reaches its employment record with 21 million workers and unemployment falls by 11.7%

During the second quarter of the year, unemployment fell by 365,300 people, 11.7% less than in the previous quarter. In the same period, 603,900 jobs were created, which has led to employment reaching an all-time high of 21,056,700 people, according to the Labour Force Survey (EPA) released by the National Statistics Institute.

Between April and June, unemployment fell by almost 1.7 points. This fall is the highest in a second quarter since 1977, with the number of unemployed standing at 2,762,500. The rate of active workers, to which 238,600 people were added between April and June, is close to 59%. The INE data reveal that the number of salaried workers increased by 2.9% (505,500), of which 410,100 signed a permanent contract and 95,400 a temporary contract.

So far this year, unemployment has fallen by 5.4% and 588,700 jobs have been created, 2.9% more than in the same period in 2022.
