A total of 18 beaches have been awarded the Ecoplayas 2025 flag -Ecobeach- in Mallorca, a recognition based on aspects such as environmental quality, accessibility, landscape integration, and sustainable management of the coastline. Of these, 14 retain the recognition obtained in 2024, while 4 new beaches join the list for their advances in sustainability and conservation.

The awards were granted within the framework of the XXII International Beach Congress and Exhibition – Ecoplayas 2025, held in Castellón on 5, 6, and 7 March. During the event, organised by ATEGRUS – the Technical Association for Waste and Environmental Management – key topics were discussed, such as the impact of climate change on the coastline, the improvement of lifeguard services, and the promotion of accessible and inclusive beaches.

The Mallorcan municipalities with award-winning beaches this year are: Alcúdia, Capdepera, Llucmajor, Muro, Santanyí, Santa Margalida, and Ses Salines.

Newly awarded beaches

  • Font de Sa Cala (Capdepera) – For the installation of eco-friendly waste stations in the sand to facilitate waste separation and reduce environmental impact.
  • Cala Santanyí (Santanyí) – For its accessibility services for people with reduced mobility, with adapted facilities integrated sustainably.
  • Ca’n Picafort (Santa Margalida) – For its sustainable cleaning system with zero environmental impact and its work in dune protection and regeneration.
  • Port-Dolç (Ses Salines) – For being a smoke-free beach, promoting a healthier environment and reducing pollution from tobacco waste.

Commitment to sustainability

In a statement, the mayor of Llucmajor, Xisca Lascolas, highlighted the importance of this recognition, stating that “this award reflects the municipality’s efforts to maintain our beaches in optimal condition, prioritising sustainability and environmental conservation.” Meanwhile, the councillor for the Environment, Rural Areas, and the Sea, Pilar Seguí, emphasised that “participating in this congress allows us to learn first-hand about innovative solutions to improve beach conservation and services, always preserving their natural essence and ensuring their enjoyment for both residents and visitors alike.”
