The Government of the Balearic Islands has launched a new joint taxi service connecting 13 municipalities in the centre and north of Mallorca, aiming to improve mobility, increase vehicle availability and facilitate travel between towns.

This special passenger pick-up scheme will operate throughout the year in the municipalities of Pollença, Alcúdia, Muro, Santa Margalida, Sa Pobla, Llubí, Inca, Binissalem, Alaró, Selva, Campanet, Petra and Escorca. The initiative is part of the single taxi fare in Mallorca, promoted by the Government, which aims to encourage inter-municipal agreements and optimise transport services.

How the joint taxi service works

The system allows taxis licensed in any of the participating municipalities to pick up passengers in another municipality and transport them anywhere in Mallorca, while always ensuring priority service in the vehicle’s home municipality.

The agreement will be implemented gradually:

  • Effective from this Sunday: Alaró, Alcúdia, Campanet, Escorca, Inca, Muro, Petra, Pollença, Sa Pobla, Santa Margalida and Selva.

  • Coming soon: Binissalem and Llubí.

The collaboration will have a one-year duration, with annual renewal up to a maximum of four years, and will operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, for both street-hail services and requests via mobile apps.

Taxi fares in Mallorca: single rate for all municipalities

The Government of the Balearic Islands established a single urban taxi fare in Mallorca last June to simplify services and encourage joint taxi agreements between municipalities. The single fare ensures transparency for passengers and makes journey planning easier.

The taxi fares in Mallorca are set as follows:

  • Price per kilometre on weekdays: €1.20

  • Price per kilometre on holidays or at night: €1.35

  • Flag drop on weekdays: €2.50

  • Flag drop on holidays or at night: €2.85

  • Waiting time per hour on weekdays: €19.40

  • Waiting time per hour on holidays or at night: €21.40

  • Airport or port surcharge: €4.65

  • Mountain surcharge 1 (Sa Calobra, Cala Tuent or Cap de Formentor): €8.52

  • Mountain surcharge 2 (Banyalbufar, Estellencs, Deià via Sóller, Cala Deià, Sa Marina de Valldemossa, Escorca, Orient and Coll de Sóller): €4.26

  • Surcharge for 5 or 6 passengers: €3

  • Surcharge for 7 or 8 passengers: €6

  • Christmas and New Year surcharge: €4.75

  • Radio or dispatcher surcharge: €1.15

  • Minimum fare from the airport: €16.95

This single fare will automatically apply to any municipality participating in joint service agreements after approval by the municipal council, and it will be periodically reviewed by the Government to ensure administrative unification and service transparency.

This collaboration is part of measures promoted by the Government to encourage agreements between municipalities to improve taxi services. The special pick-up scheme in the centre and north of Mallorca adds to the scheme already applied in eight municipalities in the Bay of Palma and the Serra de Tramuntana—for the summer season, from June to September (More information at this link). Additionally, another special taxi pick-up scheme is planned for the Llevant area, involving three municipalities (Artà, Sant Llorenç and Son Servera).
