The Sala Gran of Palma’s Teatre Principal was packed last night with a gala that kicked off the Paco de Lucía 2024 Festival and culminated with a concert by Las Migas in which they presented their latest album, Libres, after a world tour that has taken them to perform on stages all over Europe, the United States and Latin America.

The 3rd edition of the festival coincides with the tenth anniversary of the death of the guitarist Paco de Lucía. Its director, Soledad Bescós, wished to express her gratitude for the good reception this event has received in Mallorca, the aim of which is “to acknowledge that this island was very significant for the great master”. The event was also attended by the president of the Consell, Llorenç Galmés, the mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez, and the president of the Fundación Paco de Lucía, Gabriela Canseco.

A festival for social and cultural integration

Founded by Soledad Bescós, always with the consensus of the Paco de Lucía Foundation, this festival pays tribute, from 2022, to the figure of the universal guitar genius. The proceeds from box office takings go to social projects and pedagogical innovation, scholarships, archives and other projects of the Paco de Lucía Foundation, which promotes initiatives that work for the social and cultural integration of vulnerable groups through flamenco music.

Paco de Lucía spent the last years of his life with his family on the island, where they have their home and studio where he composed and recorded his last work, Canción Andaluza, Grammy Award for best album of 2014. After his death in 2014, the guitar master was declared an adopted son of Mallorca by the Consell de Mallorca.
