More and more people are choosing outdoor settings to stay fit and lead a healthy life. Paseo Marítimo, Es Portitxol, Ciudad Jardín, Bellver and Sa Riera parks… These are some of the new outdoor ‘gyms’ that have got more members in recent months. Playing sports outdoors was a trend before the virus arrived, but the change in habits and the search for open spaces, which in these times seem to offer greater security, has consolidated this practice.
Now the traditional walk or the half hour of cardio coexists with much more professional exercises. “The diversity offered by the surroundings of the city of Palma allows you to organize any type of training: zumba, yoga, Pilates, crosstraining, group training, personal training, preparation for public examinations…”. This is how Jonathan Miguel, the professional coach of many of those who seek to get in shape on the streets of Palma, lives it.
This outdoor sport practice is chosen by “people who are demanding with themselves who seek a moment of disconnection from daily stress in training”, says Miguel. And what better way to do it than in green spaces, at the foot of the Cathedral, with the sea in the background and, above all, around the corner.
