Mallorca will be the star of film festivals in Hollywood, Tarazona, Valencia, Gijón and Italy with the screening of three short films that have the island as a common thread. The works “Mi isla”, by Sandra Lipski; “Historias encontradas”, by Andreu Fullana, and “Un parell de cançons després”, by Jaume Carrió, were three of the winning projects in the ideas competition organised by the Mallorca Tourism Foundation and the Mallorca Film Commission.

“Mi isla” premiered on Sunday 14th August at the famous Chinese theatre in Hollywood – where the Oscar gala is held – as part of the Hollyshorts festival. After the world premiere, the European premiere will take place at the Italian NÒT Film Fest in Santarcangelo di Romana.

On 19 August, it was the turn of “Historias encontradas” in the official section of the Tarazona Film Festival, a pre-selection competition for the Goya Awards. And Jaume Carrió’s “Un parell de cançons després” premiered in Valencia at the RiuRau Film Festival on 26 August and a few days later at the Muestra de Cine Documental Musical de Gijón.

The films about Mallorca

“Mi isla” is an endearing story directed by Sandra Seeling about a single mother and her two-year-old daughter, who travel to Mallorca to settle an inheritance and unexpectedly change their future.

“Historias encontradas” is an adventure comedy created by Andreu Fullana; a diving instructor finds a lost camera on the seabed where the adventures and misadventures of different characters have been recorded: diving, balloon trips, gastronomic tourism and a caravan trip around Mallorca.

“Un parell de cançons després” is a vindication by its author of the synergistic force of art and culture. The relationship and inspiration between a painter of immense murals and a singer-songwriter affected by creative block.

The Minister of Transition, Tourism and Sport, Andreu Serra, stressed that “these are three completely different but complementary creative proposals with the same objective: to disseminate our territory and heritage throughout the world”.

The other two winning projects in the competition were “Ciclovidas”, by Ángela Aidini, Carmelo Morales and Pedro Victory, and “El instante”, by Marcos Cabotà, which will begin their trajectory through the festivals at the end of the year or at the beginning of 2023.
