Palma City Council is finalising the details of Sa Rua 2024, which will be held on Sunday the 11th of February. Once Sa Rua is over, the prizes for the winning floats and troupes of the competition held every year in the Plaça Rei Joan Carles I will be awarded. Likewise, on Saturday the 10th of February it will be the turn of the S’Arenal Carnival. The Part Forana of Mallorca also joins in the festival of troupes and costumes from dijous gras and throughout the weekend with concerts, dances, parades… until the end with the burial of the sardine.
In Mallorca, Carnival is popularly known as ‘els Darrers dies’ and refers to the days before Christian Lent. Every year, it is placed in a different place in the calendar depending on the dates of Easter. The event always takes place 40 days before Maundy Thursday, which this year is brought forward to 28 March. After the carnival festival in Mallorca comes the Fira del Ram as a prelude to Easter.
Sa Rua 2024: route and competition
On Sunday 11th February the Sa Rua parade will complete the following itinerary: la Rambla, Carrer de la Riera, Carrer de la Unió, Plaça del Rei Joan Carles I and Avinguda Jaume III.
