Water reserves in the Balearic Islands have improved significantly during November, reaching 48% of capacity. This figure is four percentage points higher than in October. This increase means that Ibiza leaves the alert status and moves to a pre-alert scenario, providing relief for water management in the Pityusic Islands.

The trend has been positive across virtually the entire archipelago. In Mallorca, reserves have risen from 44% to 48%; in Menorca, from 43% to 44%; and in Ibiza, from 39% to 47%, recording the most notable increase of the month.

There have also been increases in most demand units (DUs), such as Menorca, Artà, Manacor-Felanitx, Migjorn, Palma-Alcúdia, Tramuntana North, Tramuntana South and Ibiza. Particularly relevant is the case of the Migjorn DU, which has returned to a normal situation. By contrast, Formentera is the only unit showing a slight decline.

Normal rainfall and a stable outlook

According to data from the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), November was a month of normal rainfall across the Balearic Islands, with an average of 70.8 l/m², compared with the usual 94.3 l/m². By island, Mallorca recorded normal values, Menorca had a wet month, while Ibiza and Formentera experienced a dry and very dry November, respectively.

Despite this, the interannual precipitation percentage remains at 94%, with standout values in the Pityusic Islands (130%). The month’s average temperature was 14.4 ºC, within the normal range.

No major changes expected in December

Looking ahead to December, and taking seasonal trends into account, forecasts suggest that water reserves in the Balearic Islands will remain at similar levels, with no significant changes expected in the current scenarios.
