The mountain rescues in Mallorca have slightly increased this summer. According to data from the Department of Finance, Innovation and Public Service of the Consell, the Firefighters of Mallorca carried out 115 operations between May and September 2025, representing a 4.5% rise compared to the previous summer.

The monthly breakdown was as follows: 23 rescues in May, 30 in June, 17 in July, 29 in August and 16 in September. These figures are similar to those of recent years, although a slight increase can be seen due to more mountain activity, both from residents and visitors.
Throughout 2024, firefighters carried out 349 mountain rescues, of which 110 took place during the summer months.
Sa Milana, key to mountain rescues in Mallorca
The ‘sa Milana’ helicopter has been an essential support in rescue operations since it came into service last August. In just a few months, it has taken part in 39 rescues, as well as one search and three vegetation fires.
Thanks to ‘sa Milana’, response times have been drastically reduced. Previously, teams took an average of five hours to complete a rescue. Now, firefighters can reach the emergency area in less than 20 minutes and take the injured directly to medical services or the hospital.
The Minister of Finance, Innovation and Public Service, Rafael Bosch, highlighted that the introduction of the helicopter has led to a significant improvement in the quality and speed of the service. It also helps to optimise resources, as many rescues can be completed with fewer personnel and without needing to mobilise several fire stations, leaving more teams available for other emergencies.
With the growing number of visitors and activities in the Serra de Tramuntana and other natural areas, mountain rescues in Mallorca will continue to be a challenge for emergency services. The combination of technology, speed and coordination will be key to maintaining safety in the mountains.
