The President of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Marga Prohens, highlighted the pride and success of the region during the official reception for the Balearic athletes who participated in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The event, held at the Consolat, brought together eight of the 21 athletes who represented the islands in the international competition, including medalists Marcus Cooper and Joan Antoni Moreno.
Prohens emphasized the extraordinary achievement of the Balearic athletes, who won three medals and twelve Olympic diplomas, describing it as “an absolute success for a small land like ours.” The President took the opportunity to reaffirm the Balearic Islands as “a land of champions,” recognizing the significance of these accomplishments in the global sports context.
In addition to the medalists, other notable athletes such as Albert Torres, Nacho Baltasar, Mavi García, Nicolau Mir, Sergio de Celis, and Rudy Fernández were present at the event. The ceremony also saw the attendance of the families of those athletes who could not be there.

During her speech, Prohens highlighted the historic participation of 21 Balearic athletes in the Olympic Games, focusing on the silver and bronze medals won in 3×3 basketball, K4 500 canoeing, and C2 500 canoeing. These achievements bring the total number of Olympic medals for the region to thirty, solidifying the Balearic Islands as a reference in the international sports arena.
In addition to celebrating the medals, Prohens underscored the importance of the twelve diplomas obtained, which reflect the high level of competition and dedication of the athletes. “The competition at the Olympic Games is intense,” she stated, adding that “just being there already represents a victory and a source of pride for the Balearic Islands.”
Medalists Marcus Cooper and Joan Antoni Moreno also spoke during the event, sharing their experiences at Paris 2024 and expressing their gratitude for the support received from the Balearic community. Both highlighted the value of the warmth and backing from their homeland during the Olympic challenge.
