PortsIB has reached a new milestone in the management of public ports in the Balearic Islands by authorising 142 base moorings for category 7 boats in 2024, double the 58 allocated in 2023. This remarkable increase highlights the organisation’s commitment to more agile and efficient management of nautical infrastructure, adapting to the growing demand in the sector, according to sources from the Balearic Government.

The expansion has been achieved through a significant increase in the number of moorings offered. While 126 moorings were proposed in 2023, the figure rose to 292 in 2024, with 142 already awarded. This progress demonstrates a strong commitment to improving public ports and promoting access to them.

Upcoming allocations

Looking ahead, PortsIB is preparing allocations for 2025, which will include moorings in Andratx, Sant Elm, Banyalbufar, Ciutadella, and the Port of Cala Ratjada, where a new distribution plan is being developed to optimise port space.

Additionally, allocation processes will be reopened in ports with moorings still available, such as Sant Antoni de Portmany, Colònia de Sant Jordi, S’Oberta, Fornells, and Es Barcarès, offering new opportunities for those who missed out in previous rounds.

Commitment to sustainable growth

These initiatives reinforce PortsIB’s dedication to sustainable growth in the recreational boating sector, considered a key pillar of economic and social development in the Balearic Islands. The organisation will continue working to balance increasing demand with the preservation of the environment and the sector’s dynamic growth.
