In early 2023, nine young Mallorcan women set out to rescue the songs they heard as children from their grandparents’ mouths and give them a fresh, innovative twist. Thus was born Pitxorines, a group that breathes new life into the popular songbook by fusing traditional sounds with influences from jazz and classical music. The group, made up of Maria Antònia Gili, Aina Tramullas, Maria Adrover, Rosa Garcias, Sinead Cormican, Carmela Cristos, Masé Jara, Silvia Rechac and Bel Miquel, has created a unique proposal that intertwines the sound of the xeremia, flabiol and tamborino with violin, double bass or piano. Its image also combines the gipó, volants and faldilles with modern garments, which reinforces its identity.

After a great reception from the public, these ‘young, cheerful and funny girls’ (meaning of pitxorines, a Mallorcan word in disuse) decided to release their first album. Thanks to a successful Verkami campaign, April 2024 saw the release of Un so qui no es gasta (A sound that doesn’t wear out), which was recognised as Best Folk Album at the VII Premis Enderrock 2024, both by the specialised critics and by popular vote.
