Fascinated by the immense diversity of humanity, the Mallorcan photographer Gerardo Cañellas now bases his work on discovering different ethnic groups and civilisations around the world. “Life in places so far from our own, with surprising rituals and customs, opens our eyes to ways of living that are sometimes hard for our culture to imagine. My images aim to show respect and admiration, filled with colour and reflecting both the joy and the pain of people in a world that, although increasingly globalised, is still very diverse and perhaps short-lived,” the photographer has said.

The final celebration of a Suri wedding, where the brides emerge from their seclusion during the village’s seven-day festival. The fur cloaks covering them are removed, and they too begin to participate in the festivities. Guests from other villages bring large barrels of the milky alcohol they have produced from corn, which will fuel the lively dancing.
