The Deputy Mayor for Mobility, Toni Deudero, has signed a decree authorising 67 new taxi drivers to work on the streets of Palma. These new taxi drivers are part of the 71 who passed the exams held last November.
Precisely last Tuesday was the first call for the 2024 exams for accessing taxi driver licences, tests that had to be suspended due to a problem at the Palau de Congressos on 6 February, where the exams were being held and which were attended by 381 candidates. The aim of these tests is none other than to increase the number of taxis in circulation in order to meet the existing demand.
The councillor recalled that at the last Mesa del Taxi, held on 14th February, it was unanimously agreed that during the coming summer months the range of time available to taxi drivers on the streets will be extended to the maximum, meaning that practically all of Palma’s 1,200 taxis will be able to work throughout the day. The month of March remains with the same timetable and service as in winter. On Fridays, Saturdays and the eve of public holidays in March and April, the entire fleet is authorised to provide service from 22:00 to 6:00.
It was also established that in April taxi drivers will work for four days with one day off. And from May to October they will be able to work every day during all hours. From May to October, the system of 5 groups is established, with total freedom and the need for each cycle and group to dedicate one week to the service in Palma de Mallorca.
