The first deputy mayor and councilor of Culture of the Ajuntament de Palma, Javier Bonet, emphasized that the concerts of Palma Jazz 2024 “share four very specific values: quality, diversity, advocacy, and their status as a tribute to a unique musical style capable of capturing the interest of a wide audience of all ages.”

Andrea Motis

The festival will open on August 1 with ‘Temblor,’ a show by the talented trumpeter and singer from Barcelona, Andrea Motis. At 29, Motis has released ten albums ranging from classic jazz to funk and Brazilian music. This time, she will lead a trio including Christoph Mallinger on violin, mandolin, vocals, and effects, and Zé Luis Nascimiento on percussion, promising a vibrant evening full of sonic nuances.

Richard Bona & Alfredo Rodríguez Trio

On August 8, the stage will welcome bassist and composer Richard Bona, one of the great representatives of contemporary jazz. Originally from Cameroon and a Grammy winner, Bona will present a special concert featuring pianist Alfredo Rodríguez, also Grammy-nominated, and drummer Michael Oliveira. This exceptional trio will offer a performance reflecting Bona’s dedication to promoting peace through music, in a tour that includes a stop in Palma.

Rita Payés and Xavi Torres

The third concert, scheduled for August 15, will feature singer and multi-instrumentalist Rita Payés and pianist Xavi Torres. This evening promises to be the most intimate of all festival sessions, highlighted by the quality and following of both artists among jazz enthusiasts. Payés, with thousands of streaming listens, and Torres, winner of the Enderrock 2023 award, will deliver a performance full of sensitivity and mastery.

Marco Mezquida

The festival will conclude on August 22 with the ‘Tornado’ show by Marco Mezquida, who will be accompanied by Masa Kamaguchi on double bass and Ramon Prats on drums and percussion. Born in Menorca 37 years ago, Mezquida has had a dazzling career that has exceeded all initial expectations, establishing himself as a prominent figure in today’s jazz scene. His performance promises to be a spectacular close to the Palma Jazz Festival 2024, leaving an indelible mark on all attendees.
