The Palma City Council has prepared a vibrant cultural programme for September 2024, featuring events including theatre, art exhibitions, music, and festivals. Below are the key events you won’t want to miss.
Exhibitions at Casal Solleric
Contemporary art will take centre stage in September with two major exhibitions at Casal Solleric:
- 21st September to 8th January 2025: Inter-acciones by Concha Jerez, a journey through the multimedia installations of this Spanish artist.
- 21st September to 8th January 2025: Un ligero vuelo by Cecilia Paredes, with works focusing on themes such as migration and nature.
Exhibitions at Can Balaguer
- September exhibitions at Can Balaguer include the display Connexió Vostell. Berlín – Malpartida – Palma, dedicated to artist Wolf Vostell, open until 29th September.
- Additionally, from 21st September, the Arts & Crafts programme will launch, featuring installations by Mar Guerrero and Cristina Vinyals.
XX Amateur Theatre Showcase
Throughout September, the XX Amateur Theatre Showcase will take place at the Teatre Municipal Mar i Terra, featuring various performances, including:
- 6th September: Historietes teatrals, by Josep Lluís Fernández, performed by the Grup de Teatre Nostra Terra.
- 13th September: Helena versus Penèlope & Co., presented by the Garbo Girls.
- 14th September: Bodas de sangre, adapted by Khátharsis.
- 20th September: Z/B Zweig/Bernanos, a play exploring the dialogue between two European intellectuals.
This theatre series showcases both local and international productions, highlighting the importance of amateur theatre in Palma.
Tensamba Festival
One of the most anticipated events is the Tensamba Festival, taking place from 6th to 8th September in various venues around Palma. This festival brings the best of contemporary Brazilian music to the island.
- 6th September: Grand opening gala with a batucada parade through the streets of central Palma, concluding with a performance by the all-female quartet Madame Baião.
- 7th September: Concert by Will Santt at the Teatre Municipal Xesc Forteza, one of the rising stars of Brazilian music.
- 8th September: The festival finale will feature Fabiana Cozza, one of Brazil’s most renowned voices, also at the Teatre Xesc Forteza.
IV Palma Circus Series
The IV Palma Circus Series will offer unique performances where creativity and innovation meet contemporary circus. Highlights include:
- 29th September: Llar by the Cia. Federico Menini at the Teatre Municipal Xesc Forteza, a circus show combining architecture and juggling.
SimfoVents Palma
SimfoVents Palma will present several concerts at the Pati de la Misericòrdia, conducted by Francisco Valero-Terribas, on 12th, 19th and 26th September.
La Nit de l’Art
On 21st September, Palma will come alive with art for Nit de l’Art, an event where the city’s major art spaces open their doors to showcase the best of contemporary creation.
