On the 17th, 18th and 19th of May, the new edition of the Capdepera Medieval Market will once again transport thousands of visitors back in time, offering a unique experience that combines the cultural wealth of the Middle Ages with the charm of this picturesque municipality in Mallorca’s Llevant region. This massive fair commemorates the foundation of Capdepera by Jaume II in the year 1300.
On this weekend full of history and tradition, Capdepera transforms its streets and squares into a bustling market where artisans, artists and traders recreate medieval life in every corner of the heart of this charming town. From traditional crafts to the most authentic gastronomy, this long-awaited celebration offers a wide variety of products and activities for the enjoyment of young and old alike, with its famous Castell as the epicentre of the celebrations.
Ancient trades at the Medieval Market in Capdepera
While the senses are awakened by the tantalising aroma of medieval culinary delights filling the air, visitors can explore the craft stalls displaying the legacy of ancient professions. On both Saturday and Sunday, there will be workshops and artisans of iron, folk musical instruments, palm works and many others. These demonstrations of ancient crafts allow visitors to immerse themselves in Capdepera’s past and gain a better understanding of its rich heritage.
For example, Yolanda Izquierdo will be leading a tin workshop in the Plaça de l’Orient (Saturday from 10 am to 12 noon and from 4 to 6 pm and Sunday from 11 am to 1 pm and from 4 to 6 pm), where you can also enjoy the Mostra de Llata, the Mostra d’Espart, courtesy of the cultural association El Retorn de Eivissa, and the Mostra de Cordat de Cadires by Pep Toni Ferrer (Saturday from 4 to 8 pm and Sunday from 11 am to 2 pm).
Constant entertainment
In addition, entertainment is constant, with performances by musicians, jugglers and minstrels filling the streets with vibrant melodies and thrilling spectacles. Meanwhile, medieval combat displays and historical re-enactments offer thrilling duels between valiant knights that transport spectators back in time.
The little ones also have their space at the market, with activities specially designed for them, such as craft workshops, traditional games and children’s shows to keep them entertained throughout the day.
With its festive atmosphere and welcoming ambience, the Capdepera Medieval Market is an unforgettable celebration that delights people of all ages and leaves a lasting impression on all who experience it.
