The MajorDocs Mallorca Documentary Film Fest celebrates its 4th edition from 4 to 8 October 2022. This year, the festival will be more international than ever and will focus its programme on domestic cinema. A space to discover other realities and other points of view through a careful selection of creative documentaries.

The festival garden will host the MajorDocs PRO programme. This is a series of masterclasses and round tables on creation and documentary filmmaking. Filmmaker Andrés Duque (“Oleg y las raras artes”) will give a masterclass on the use of the archive and first-person cinema, based on his most intimate films. He will be accompanied by Pablo Gómez Sala, founder and director of MOCA (Museo en línea de cine autobiográfico) and Clara Sánchez-Dehesa, Spain’s leading expert in analogue film conservation. Together they will give a talk in which they will reflect on the creative value of the home film archive, the re-signification of memory and the past, the role of film libraries and film archives and the challenges and opportunities presented by this cinema of memory.
The cycle on home cinema will close with a masterclass by Karianne Fiorini and Gianmarco Torri, from the Re-framing Home Movies programme. They will discuss the methodology of some recent projects that have re-evaluated home movies. In addition, different aspects of archive preservation and artistic reuse will be addressed.
MajorDocs Mallorca 2022 continues its commitment to the confluence between film and philosophy. The award-winning philosopher and essayist Josep Maria Esquirol, known for his proposal of the “philosophy of proximity”, will reflect on poetics and creation in a session sponsored by the UIB.
Each of the masterclasses will be followed by a Doc Session. In these sessions, the filmmakers selected in the official section will be able to comment on the creation processes of their films.
