  • The service has now reached 43 of the chain’s 47 stores in the islands and includes its range of Christmas dishes available to order throughout December

In many Mercadona stores, lunchtime already has a distinctive aroma: that of their freshly prepared dishes. The Ready to Eat section has become a regular stop for those seeking quick solutions without giving up homemade flavour. In the Balearic Islands, this service has reached an almost complete rollout: 43 of the 47 stores now offer it following the expansions in 2025.

Launched in 2017, this proposal emerged after identifying —together with customers— a clear need: to provide fresh, ready-to-eat dishes prepared with the quality of traditional cooking. To develop it, Mercadona created a co-innovation centre in Burjassot (València), where recipes, formats and continuous improvements were tested.

Based on the suggestions and ideas gathered during these customer work sessions, the current assortment was configured, featuring approximately 40 dishes. Most options are served in packaging made from natural materials such as sugarcane (compostable), paper or cardboard.

The offering includes starters and appetisers (croquettes, Russian salad, etc.), main dishes (rice, pasta, burgers, roast chicken with potatoes or sandwiches), hot and cold meals, lighter options and a display of chilled drinks to accompany any meal.

The company continues to incorporate improvements thanks to direct work with consumers. An evolution that reinforces its commitment to listening to its customers —“The Boss”— and anticipating their needs with traditional recipes ready to take home.

Mercadona offers in its Ready to Eat section a selection of Christmas dishes that can be ordered throughout the month of December in the stores that provide this service.

The assortment includes canapés and seafood salad, as well as a variety of traditional hot dishes such as braised beef cheeks, suckling lamb shoulder, 1/4 roast suckling pig or stuffed chicken thigh.

In the Balearic Islands, this year’s campaign features a specific addition: mini omelettes with assorted fillings.

All dishes can be pre-ordered and will also be available at the counter on key days leading up to Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
