King Felipe Felipe today presented the Kingdom of Spain Award for Business Career Achievement to the Chairman of Meliá Hotels International, Gabriel Escarrer Juliá. In his speech, the King stressed that “Spain has many good examples of entrepreneurs who contribute to this development and progress. That is why the Jury for this edition of the Award – chaired by the director of the RAE, Santiago Muñoz Machado – has not found it easy to choose this year’s winners. Fortunately, there are many excellent careers that – like the one we are celebrating here today – contribute, day after day, to making Spain a better country”.
On his arrival at the Palma Conference Centre, Felipe VI was received by the President of the Government, Francina Armengol; the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, José Luis Escrivá; the President of the Balearic Parliament, Vicenç de Paül Thomàs; the Government Delegate, Aina Calvo; the Commander General of the Balearic Islands, Fernando Luis Gracia; the President of the Consell de Mallorca, Catalina Cladera; and the President of the Cercle d’Economia, Jaume Guardiola, among other authorities.
The ceremony began with the screening of a video tribute to the award winner.
The Jury’s decision was taken on the basis of his contribution to the economic and social development of Spain over several decades of effort and hard work, creating jobs, internationalising his activities and contributing to the improvement of his environment and the welfare of the country, all while excellently combining professional interests with social, artistic and cultural causes. Reasons that make it a benchmark for future generations.
