The 17th edition of the Jazz Voyeur Festival promises to make Mallorca the epicenter of international jazz, with a program that pays homage to the evolution of Brazilian jazz, highlighting the music of masters such as Egberto Gismonti and Tom Jobim. This prestigious event, taking place between October 25 and December 19, will feature top national and international artists.
An edition with a Brazilian touch
This year, the festival focuses on Brazil’s influence on the jazz world, with an artistic lineup that includes concerts, film series, and masterclasses. Among the headliners is Egberto Gismonti, one of Brazil’s most respected musicians, who will be performing in Mallorca for the first time. Additionally, the Film & Jazz Series at Es Baluard Museu will screen two documentaries about Tom Jobim, an icon of Bossa Nova.
The festival will also feature the renowned José James, who will open the festival with his fusion of jazz, soul, and hip hop, marking his debut in the Balearic Islands.
Jazz Voyeur Festival 2024: Concert Program
The Jazz Voyeur Festival will offer a total of five concerts, spanning various genres linked to jazz, from Bossa Nova to Gospel. Below is the complete program by date:
- October 25 – José James with his ‘1978’ tour at the Trui Teatre. He will perform with the Yelfris Valdés Quartet, a Cuban trumpeter based in Mallorca.
- November 3 – Chano Domínguez 45 years, at the Teatre Principal de Palma, joined by renowned artists such as Martirio, Horacio Fumero, Guillermo McGill, and Mariola Membrives.
- November 17 – Dave Douglas & Joey Baron Quartet at the Trui Teatre, followed by the local band Nayla Yenquis Group, which combines classical jazz with Brazilian popular music.
- November 24 – Egberto Gismonti at the Conservatori Superior de Música de les Illes Balears. A solo performance by the Brazilian master, with the participation of local musician Pedro Rosa.
- December 19 – Bridget Brazile & The New Orleans Gospel Choir at the Trui Teatre. An emotional closing with the best of international gospel, accompanied by Ánima Gospel Mallorca.
Film & Jazz Series at Es Baluard
To complement the cultural program, the festival will offer two free screenings at Es Baluard Museu, dedicated to Tom Jobim:
- November 7 – Chega de Saudade, a journey through the history of Bossa Nova.
- November 20 – Águas de Março, which explores Jobim’s fascination with nature and its influence on his music.
