The President of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, today inaugurated the new Vehicle Inspection (ITV) Station in Calvià. This new centre, located in the Son Bugadelles industrial estate, will allow up to 9,000 inspections per month, doubling the capacity of the old mobile station in the area, aiming to significantly reduce the waiting lists on the island.

The project, which required an investment of €1.9 million, features four inspection lanes for cars, two for heavy vehicles, and one for motorbikes. The land was provided by the Ajuntament de Calvià to the Consell de Mallorca under an administrative concession, including an annual fee of €100,000 for the first ten years. The concession has a term of 35 years, extendable to 50 years.

650,000 Annual Inspections in Mallorca

During the opening ceremony, Galmés emphasised that this facility is part of the plan to increase inspection capacity across Mallorca. “With the new ITV contract for the next two years, we expect to increase from 480,000 annual inspections in 2024 to 650,000 in 2025,” he stated. He also celebrated the reduction in waiting lists, with appointments already available in January and February this year.

The Consell de Mallorca has also launched a new website, ITV.Mallorca.es, allowing users to book appointments and make payments online, streamlining the process by eliminating the need to visit the offices before the inspection.

The new contract, definitively awarded in November to ITV Vega Baja after resolving various legal challenges, is valued at €33 million for the next two years. It includes a 35% increase in the annual inspection capacity across the island, along with the hiring of 55 new workers, 30 of whom will be assigned to the new Calvià station.
