“Today, more than ever, we must not look away. The world is regressing, and staying silent makes us complicit.”
— Grip Face

With this direct and meaningful statement, Mallorcan artist Grip Face highlights one of the great contradictions of our time: the promise of peace versus passivity in the face of conflict. No to war. His new installation, entitled ‘Utopia of Mud. Sashimi of Mist’, will be presented on 19 September at the Miró Mallorca Foundation, and promises to leave no one indifferent.

Twelve hanging sculptures, one powerful statement

The installation features twelve masked sculptures, suspended from swings made of thorns, evoking the fragility of political discourse in the face of the real pain of war. Through this powerful image, Grip Face denounces the institutional hypocrisy of Europe in the face of armed conflict: “While it promises peace, it does nothing to achieve it,” he states.

As in all his work, Grip Face’s visual language blends codes from graffiti, Japanese animation, and the skateboarding world, in an aesthetic that appeals both to emotion and critique. But this time, the message is more explicit and urgent.

Returning to the origin

Born in Palma in 1989, the artist considers this exhibition a key moment in his career: “There’s something deeply intimate about returning to the island,” he explains. “Fundació Miró marked my teenage years, so exhibiting there not only represents an honor, but also an exciting challenge. History, memory, and the present converge in this opportunity.”

Grip Face has established himself as one of the most prominent names in the new wave of Spanish contemporary art, with strong international projection, especially in the Asian market, where his work has featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions to great acclaim.

LA BIBI + REUS: local platform, global impact

The exhibition is driven by LA BIBI + REUS, the new project born from the merger of two Mallorcan galleries: La Bibi and Fran Reus. Since January 2025, this union has combined over 20 years of experience in contemporary art with a renewed and experimental vision.

With locations in Central Palma, Establiments, and Mexico City, as well as an artist residency space in the Mallorcan countryside, LA BIBI + REUS is emerging as one of the most active cultural agents in the Balearic Islands with international reach.
