The government, trade unions and employers have agreed to work on protective measures to tackle the economic uncertainty caused by the war in Ukraine this winter. This was agreed at the Social Dialogue Round Table held this Monday, where they committed themselves to designing a road map so that the measures can begin to be applied in the coming months.
Following the presentation by representatives of the UGT and CCOO trade unions and the CAEB and PIMEB employers’ associations, the Government has assured that it will begin to work with them, in a joint and coordinated manner, on lines of action that must serve to tackle, from an economic and social point of view, a period that this year is conditioned by a horizon of uncertainty derived, basically, from the war situation affecting Ukraine, after the Russian invasion, and the consequences of the increase in the price of energy products.
The Councillor for Economic Model, Tourism and Employment, Iago Negueruela, defended the fact that “in the Balearic Islands we have a strong solvency situation” in terms of the business situation and recalled that, in terms of “employment or growth and macroeconomic data, we are double that of the rest of Spain”. According to Negueruela, this demonstrates that “the measures that have been put in place have produced very good results this year, including those promoted when the war in Ukraine began”.
All parties agreed that the islands are currently in a highly positive position, thanks to the efforts of everyone – workers, employers and administrations – in overcoming a terrible pandemic, and also thanks to a particularly positive tourist season for the archipelago. This fact allows us to start from a better position than other territories. However, the Govern and the economic and social agents are aware of the threats that are hanging over the current economy due to the international context: “We have to see what measures to adopt in the coming months in order to reach the next season with our productive fabric in a good situation and having ensured that workers have been able to comfortably spend these winter months”, explained the minister.
