The Palma City Council in collaboration with the Association of Circus Professionals of the Balearic Islands (APCIB) has programmed the first cycle of ‘Palma Circus’ that will take place from September 3 to 5 in municipal theaters and other outdoor spaces.
Starting next week, any interested citizen will be able to attend a total of 8 shows that will be distributed in different locations. They will also be able to visit a traveling and collective exhibition with works by APCIB members. In addition, the cycle includes a social circus workshop for the youngest to be held in the neighborhood of La Soledad.
Admission to the shows can be booked in advance on the website https://palmacultura.koobin.cat/index.php at a cost of € 10 and € 12 if purchased directly at the box office. Only the shows scheduled at the Casal de Barrio Joan Alcover will be free (prior entry required).
The circus, one more scenic art to promote
The Deputy Mayor for Culture and Social Welfare, Antoni Noguera, has indicated that it is an initiative with which “the circus is put in the place where it belongs in our city. It is a first step to dignify the sector and we are working towards the inauguration of Can Ribas as a true nerve center of the circus ”, he added.
For her part, Mari Paz Arango, president of the APCIB, has expressed to this media that they are “very happy” with this project, which “began in 2020, when we were confined and we presented a study that showed that the circus had little prominence in the programs of the theaters of Palma”. Arango hopes that this pilot edition “will triumph and be launched next year also with companies from outside the Balearic Islands. The idea is that it grows until it becomes a benchmark cycle ”, she concluded.
