This is one of the most important Marian celebrations of the liturgical year. For Mallorcan society, the Assumption of Mary represents one of the most important religious festivals of the Virgin Mary. The island institution stresses that the number of monuments that can be visited continues to increase: there will be 20 beds in Palma and 58 in the Part Forana.

What’s new on the festivity of the Assumption 2024?

The main novelties this year are to be found in the Part Forana, as the monuments of Lloret de Vistalegre and the monastery of Sineu have been incorporated. The exhibitions of other beds that were incorporated last year continue, such as those of Biniali, Maria de la Salut, Llucmajor and Capdepera.

As far as Palma is concerned, 20 monuments will be presented on the festivity of the Assumption 2024: the bed of Sant Jaume will be partially mounted, as it is in the process of being restored. It should also be noted that the bed of Santa Magdalena, which was restored in 2022, will be continued.

On 14th August, the Cathedral will begin the traditional events in honour of the Virgin Mary in August, the titular feast of the temple, dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

Every 15th August, the church solemnises the death and Assumption into heaven of the Virgin Mary, a celebration full of Marian iconography. The Mare de Déu Morta is represented in her Llit, guarded by the angels and the apostles, just before ascending to heaven in body and soul. As usual, the Seu will exhibit the Llit during the last weeks of August for its veneration.
