The second edition of the Festival Paco de Lucía Mallorca, Palma Flamenca will be held from the 1st to the 5th of March 2023. The artist Estrella Morente will be in charge of inaugurating the event in an opening gala that will take place on the 1st of March in Palma’s Teatre Principal at 8:00 pm.
The recent Latin Grammy nominee is one of the stars confirmed for this second edition. Before her performance, at 19:00, the exhibition Agua de Lola Álvarez (Water by Lola Álvarez) will be inaugurated in CaixaFroum. In addition, the Festival programme has confirmed more performances, which will be added to as the premiere approaches.
Programme of the Paco de Lucía Festival Mallorca 2023
- Thursday 2nd March: Tribute Gala – Antonio Sánchez & Simfovents at the Conservatorio Superior de Música at 20:00. Sánchez, guitarist and nephew of Paco de Lucía, will offer a double show. In the first part he will exclusively present his new album, accompanied by the harmonica of Antonio Serrano. The second part will feature a repertoire of Paco de Lucía songs performed with the Banda Municipal de Música de Palma -SimfoVents Palma.
- Friday the 3rd of March: Dance, dance and flamenco guitar special – Rocío Molina & Yerai Cortés, in the Teatre Municipal Xesc Forteza at 8:00 pm. One of Spain’s most internationally acclaimed artists, winner of the National Dance Prize.
- Saturday 4th March: Especial Tradición + Vanguardia – Rocío Márquez & Bronquio, in the Teatre Municipal Xesc Forteza at 20:00. Hailed by the press as “the voice of the new generation of flamenco singing”, with Bronquio she incorporates electronics in her new record “Tercer cielo”.
- Sunday 5 March: Especial Flamenco Puro – Rancapino Chico, at the Teatre Municipal Xesc Forteza at 19:00. Considered one of the best young cantaores on the current flamenco scene, representative of Flamenco Puro and heir to the cantes de Cádiz. He will present for the first time his new show “Pasado, Presente y Futuro” (Past, Present and Future), which will kick off its tour at the Paco de Lucía Mallorca 2023 Festival.
Parallel activities
In addition to the performances themselves, the festival programme includes different activities. CaixaForum will host the screening of the 90-minute documentary Francisco Sánchez: Paco de Lucía about the life and work of Paco de Lucía. Es Baluard Museu d’Art Contemporani Palma will host a session of “I-CorDes. Institute of Relocated Corpologies”. The session will be given by Rocío Molina.
