With 29 films from the Balearic Islands, 31 national, 12 European and 27 world premieres, the tenth edition of the Evolution! Mallorca International Film Festival will be held in Palma from October 27 to November 2 under the direction of the director Sandra Sellink Lipski.
The festival, whose headquarters are at the Portixol hotel in Palma, begins with the premiere of the film “Lemon bread with poppy seeds”, by Benito Zambrano. Filmed in Mallorca, the story is set in the villages of the Sierra Tramuntana. The Sevillian director is, in his own way, a promoter of the festival, since he opened the first edition of Evolution a decade ago. On this occasion, he will show off his teaching side by giving a conducting workshop on the 28th and 29th at the CEF School of Visual Arts.
The cinephile date, an essential cultural event on the island, has as its highlight the world premiere of “The Laureate”, a film directed by William Nunez, which evokes aspects of the love life of British writer Robert Graves, who lived in Deià as part of his life.
A luxury guest
German filmmaker Wim Wenders, author of the famous documentary by the club’s legendary Cuban musicians Buena Vista Social, will receive the 2021 Evolution Honorary Award, an award with which the festival recognizes his career. For this reason, the program also includes the screening of his documentary “The Salt of The Earth”.
On the other hand, this edition highlights the growth of Balearic filmmakers with 29 proposals of various themes and genres. Among others, “Sonic Fantasy”, a documentary about the singer Michael Jackson, by Marcos Cabotá, and “Ulisses”, by the director Joan Bover.
On the festival website you can find all the information about the full program, how to get tickets and the screening sites for the films.
