The Government of the Balearic Islands has inaugurated the region’s largest ultra-fast electric vehicle charging hub operated by Endesa, featuring a total of 22 charging points with an installed capacity of 988 kW. This facility, located in the outdoor car park of the Mallorca Fashion Outlet in Marratxí, is a pioneering infrastructure aimed at promoting electric mobility and contributing to the region’s decarbonisation objectives.

The new electric vehicle charging hub include 4 ultra-fast charging bays of 300 kW, 10 super-fast charging bays of 60 kW, and 8 semi-fast charging bays equipped with 22 kW chargers. This infrastructure allows electric vehicle users to choose between different charging speeds according to their needs: in just 5 to 15 minutes with ultra-fast chargers, between 30 to 60 minutes with fast chargers, and between 2 to 4 hours for semi-fast charging to reach 80% of the battery.

New electric vehicle charging points, key to decarbonisation

The inauguration event was attended by the Minister of Business, Employment, and Energy, Alejandro Sáenz de San Pedro; the Director of the Balearic Institute of Energy (IBE), Hernando Rayo; the Mayor of Marratxí, Jaume Llompart; the Marketing Director of VIA Outlets in Spain, Jorge Pérez de Zabalza; and Endesa’s Managing Director in the Balearics, Martí Ribas.

During the ceremony, Minister Sáenz de San Pedro highlighted that “actions like these align with the Government’s goals to advance decarbonisation. In the Balearic Islands, approximately 85% of energy comes from fossil fuels, while 15% is generated from renewables. As of today, we have more charging points in Marratxí available to the public, which will drive the growth of electric vehicles in our community.”
