The German market remains key for tourism in the Balearic Islands, as is evident from the Government’s participation in the 2025 ITB Berlin tourism fair. The President of the Government, Margalida Prohens, highlighted the loyalty of German tourists, who in 2024 reached 5.3 million visitors, representing a 9% growth compared to the previous year. Prohens thanked this continued trust and emphasised the importance of maintaining a strong relationship with Germany, the main driving force of the Balearic tourism sector. “The loyalty of the German market is a fundamental pillar for our sector,” she stated.

For his part, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Jaume Bauzà, took advantage of the ITB Berlin 2025 tourism fair to reaffirm the Balearic Islands’ commitment to sustainability and quality in tourism. “It is essential to diversify our tourism offer and reduce seasonality. We want to position the Balearic Islands as a cultural, sports, and gastronomic destination, capable of attracting visitors year-round with a varied schedule of activities and events,” Bauzà said. In this regard, he highlighted the increase in the arrival of German tourists during the winter season, with an 11% increase.
Positive Expectations
The atmosphere of optimism at the ITB was also reflected in the meetings held with major German tour operators such as TUI, DER Touristik, Schaunisland, and Alltours. Tourism agents conveyed “good vibes” regarding the arrival of German tourists to the Balearic Islands for this season, with positive expectations concerning demand.
Bauzà, after the round of meetings, expressed his satisfaction with the results: “The good relationship between the Balearic Islands and Germany is reaffirmed, a key market for our tourism, which contributes to achieving de-seasonalisation across all the islands and is particularly committed to the transition towards a more sustainable model,” he pointed out.
Sustainability Pact
The President of the Government, Margalida Prohens, presented on Tuesday in Berlin the challenges faced by the government in implementing the Foundations of the Transition Agenda, a plan promoted by the Sustainability Pact. This document, resulting from the 12 working groups held in Mallorca, sets clear indicators and objectives to move towards a more sustainable model in the Balearic Islands. Prohens emphasised the importance of reaching consensus on all proposals in order to guarantee the well-being of residents and the quality of the experience for tourists.
The Government is working on developing a package of proposals aligned with the Transition Agenda, which will be presented to Balearic society in the coming weeks. The President stressed that sustainability must be the central axis of this transformation, aiming to balance tourism development with environmental preservation and coexistence with residents.
