The Ajuntament de Palma has carried out today, Tuesday, the demolition works of the illegal constructions recently erected in the Son Riera-Son Banya area. The operation, which began at 09:15 hours, responds to the Council’s commitment to act “as soon as possible and with determination” against any urban planning irregularity, as announced by the mayor, Jaime Martínez Llabrés.

The mayor has insisted that the Ajuntament de Palma “will not allow any kind of irregularity or illegality within its competences” and has warned that they will remain vigilant to prevent similar situations from recurring. “And if it happens again, we will be there to undo everything that is illegal,” said Jaime Martínez Llabrés.
Heavy machinery and police support in Son Banya
The operation has involved various municipal departments such as Urbanisme, Medi Ambient i Benestar Animal, and Emaya, with the support of several units from the Local Police —including the Motorizada Unit, the Immediate Intervention Unit (UII), the Integrated Security Unit (USEI), and the Drone Unit—, along with officers from the National Police.
The action in Son Banya includes the demolition of six sheds, a concrete slab, metal and reed fencing, lighting poles, and illegal electrical installations. Heavy machinery has been deployed to carry out the works, including two excavators of 54 and 30 tonnes, and a 35-tonne digger. The municipal crane service has also been used to remove abandoned vehicles from the area.
It is expected that the demolition tasks will be completed later today, thus fulfilling the Ajuntament de Palma’s goal of immediately restoring urban planning legality.
