The Consell de Mallorca has presented this Tuesday a strategic project in Estellencs and Banyalbufar for the recovery of agricultural activity in the Sierra de la Tramuntana based on the circular economy.
President Cladera has explained that this project will reactivate farms in disuse and will create links between the peasantry and the restaurant and hotel industry, starting from the recovery of marjades.
Both Estellencs and Banyalbufar are municipalities in the Serra that are losing more population and which, in turn, have been neglecting the primary sector, as has been confirmed in the investigation of the Serra Indicators System. The project will be developed from the participation plan with the neighborhoods of the municipalities and entities involved.
The initiative also contemplates the revitalization of local distribution channels, and the action will be accompanied by a promotion and marketing strategy for the local product.
The Island Councilor for the Territory, Maria Antònia Garcías, stressed that the maintenance of agricultural operations, as well as that of the hydraulic systems, are absolutely necessary for the Serra to be able to maintain its essence “We must revitalize a territory that received the distinction of UNESCO World Heritage as a cultural landscape precisely because of this interaction of its inhabitants who sought the productivity of a land that was difficult to cultivate”, said the minister.
The plan presented seeks to “encourage and strengthen the productive capacity of small producers, peasants and peasants by providing them with land on disused farms, financing to be able to participate and creating links between their product and the restaurant and hotel sectors”, he concluded.
The subsidies of the Serra de Tramuntana Consortium for this 2022 for the first time have exceeded one million euros and have reached 1,075,000 euros.
