Through the Institut Mallorquí d’Afers Socials (IMAS), the Consell de Mallorca has strengthened the public network of care for people in dependency with an investment of €11.5 million, which will remain in force until 2027. The agreement, signed with the Government of the Balearic Islands, guarantees care for 186 older people in a situation of dependency through the reservation and occupation of residential and day-care places in different public centres across the island.

The agreement secures a total of 146 residential places and 40 day-care places distributed across five centres in the public network:

  • 30 places at the Mente 2 day centre (Palma)

  • 10 places at the Hospicio day centre (Felanitx)

  • 60 places at the Llar dels Ancians care home (Palma)

  • 70 places at the Son Caulelles care home (Marratxí)

  • 16 places at the Miquel Mir care home (Inca)

This distribution makes it possible to strengthen dependency care in a balanced way across different parts of the island and to ensure coverage for the needs of older people and their families.

The agreement includes comprehensive services such as accommodation, meals, hygiene, social and healthcare support, and activities aimed at promoting personal autonomy, following a person-centred care model adapted to each user’s specific needs.

Dignified, high-quality care

The President of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, has highlighted that “older people are the roots of our society and we have a moral and institutional duty to ensure they receive dignified, high-quality care”. In this regard, he underlined that the €11.5 million investment “is a firm commitment to strengthening the public network and giving families peace of mind”.

For his part, the President of the Institut Mallorquí d’Afers Socials (IMAS), Guillermo Sánchez, stressed that “this agreement strengthens the public system of dependency care and ensures that each older person has the resource they need”.
