“The fundamental objective is to guarantee the utmost cleanliness of the process and to offer all applicants equal opportunities.” This was stated by the Regional Minister for Tourism, José Marcial Rodríguez, when announcing that the Consell is working on a more reliable and secure procedure for the next call for tourist accommodation places in Mallorca, both hotel and holiday rental. This decision has led to the postponement of the start of the application process, initially scheduled for 20 December.

The Governing Board of the Tourist Accommodation Places Pool Consortium (CBAT) approved today, Thursday, a delay in the call in order to avoid technical failures and to strengthen legal certainty and transparency. The Department of Tourism of the Consell de Mallorca, in coordination with the Island Directorate for Modernisation, Transparency and Innovation, is developing a new technological procedure, more robust and advanced, aimed at guaranteeing the integrity of every stage and ensuring fair access to the process.
A new procedure for tourist accommodation places in Mallorca
This initiative is particularly significant within the framework of the new model for managing tourist accommodation places in Mallorca, approved by the Consell last June, and follows incidents detected in previous processes. The aim is to implement a system that avoids technical errors and ensures a well-organised, transparent procedure with full legal guarantees.
It should be recalled that the Consell de Mallorca eliminated a total of 18,000 tourist accommodation places on the island in that same month of June, representing a reduction of 4.2%. Specifically, the cap on tourist accommodation places will fall from the current 430,000 to around 412,000 in total, of which approximately 308,000 belong to the hotel sector and the remaining 104,000 to holiday rentals.
