The courtyard of La Misericòrdia was once again the setting for the closing gala of the Atlàntida Mallorca Film Festival, presided over by Queen Letiza. In her first institutional act in Mallorca since the start of her holidays in Marivent, the monarch presented the Masters of Cinema 2023 award to the French-Swiss actress Irène Jacob. The Queen was accompanied by the new institutional representatives of the islands, led by the President of the Govern, Margalida Prohens.

The event was also attended by the Minister of Culture and Sport, Miquel Iceta; the president of the Consell Insular de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, and the director of the Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest, Jaume Ripoll, among other authorities. Also present on behalf of the Govern were the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Jaume Bauzà, and the General Director of Culture, Pedro Vidal.

A record-breaking Atlàntida

This year’s Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest 2023 has broken audience records. A total of 23,000 spectators attended the festival’s different events. Finally, this year’s award winners were the following:

  • Critics’ Prize for the film “Aurora’s Sunrise” by director Inna Sahakyan. The award was presented by Filmin’s programming coordinator, Elodie Mellado.
  • Audience Award for the film “Passages” by director Ira Sachs. The award was presented by the director of MN Film School, Martín Nigro.
  • Best National Film Award to “Sueños y Pan” by director Luis Soto. The award was presented by the president of DAMA – Derechos de Autor de Medios Audiovisuales, Virginia Yagüe.
  • Best International Film Award to “Safe Place” by director Juraj Lerotic and Honourable Mention to the film “Falcon Lake” directed by Charlotte Le Bon. The award was presented by the CEO of Filmin, Juan Carlos Tous.
  • Master Of Cinema 2023 Award to the French-Swiss actress and singer Irène Jacob, who expressed her gratitude. The award was presented by Queen Letizia.

After the awards ceremony, the gala continued with the screening of the film “Creatura”, winner of the award for Best European Film at the Directors’ Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival, which was presented by its director, Elena Martín; the producer, Tono Folguera; and the actress Clara Segura.

Queen Letizia has attended three editions of the festival, both for the opening, as was the case of the 2019 edition at the Castell de Bellver, and the closing galas in 2021 and 2022, along with film greats such as Stephen Frears, Judi Dench and Isabelle Huppert, among others.
