Fully immersed in Christmas 2020-2021 in Mallorca, we review the most important traditions of the island and events to enjoy these dates.
THE SIBYL
The voice of the Sybyl, a Gregorian a cappella chant, can be heard in most of Majorca’s churches the night before the birth of Jesus. This liturgical celebration has its origins in the Middle Ages and was declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2010.
FESTA DE L’ESTENDARD
The commemoration of the entry of the troops of Jaume I in Palma on December 31, 1229 will be held this year in a reduced format and will not be open to the public. La Colcada will be replaced on this occasion by a broadcast on the City Council YouTube channel of an interpretation of previous years.
NEW YEAR’S EVE
On December 31 nigh, family and friends gather around the table to say goodbye to the year and welcome the next. The tradition of the 12 grapes to attract good luck this year will not be held in Cort or in Plaça Joan Carles I to avoid large crowds.
THE THREE KINGS PARADE
Due to the current pandemic situation, this year’s Parade of the Kings will be in digital format. The Three Kings will arrive at Moll Vell on the night of January 5 and there will be a parade without an audience that can be followed live on IB3 television.
ADORATION OF THE KINGS
2021 will begin with the traditional Adoració dels Tres Reis d’Orient in Ses Voltes on January 6. Bernat Pujol will be in charge of updating and directing Llorenç Moyà’s work for another year.
SANT ANTONI
On January 16 and 17, one of Mallorca’s most deeplyrooted festivals returns, linked to the island’s agricultural roots. Sa Pobla, Manacor, Artà, Pollença, Muro and Palma celebrate Sant Antoni, with the dimonis and foguerons as the main protagonists. The Beneïdes de Sant Antoni fill the streets with animals that receive the priestly blessing.
SANT SEBASTIÀ
The festivities of the patron saint of Palma will be decentralized so that citizens can continue to enjoy, despite the restrictions, different cultural activities during this festivity, which begins on the night of January 19 with the Revetla de Sant Sebastià.

NATIVITY SCENES
The nativity scenes congregate thousands of visitors every year, although this year they have reduced capacity. Some of the most outstanding nativity scenes are those of Cort, the Nativity Scene of the Consell de Mallorca or that of dioramas of the Fundació Sa Nostra.
CHRISTMAS MARKETS
The Plaza Mayor, Plaza de la Porta Pintada, Plaza de España and Rambla become the main Christmas markets in Palma until next January 6 from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm.
