Awarded by the Government of the Balearic Islands, the Premis Esports IB 2023 will be presented at a gala event to be held on 18th December at the Palau de Congressos de Palma. The footballers Cata Coll and Mariona Caldentey and the canoeist Joan Toni Moreno, from the Real Club Náutico del Port de Pollença, have been chosen as the best Balearic sportsmen and women.
World champions, footballers Cata Coll, Mariona Caldentey and canoeist Joan Toni Moreno, from the Real Club Náutico del Port de Pollença, have been chosen as the best Balearic sportsmen and women at the Premis Esports IB 2023, awarded by the Govern de les Illes Balears (Government of the Balearic Islands). The awards will be presented at a gala held on 18th December at the Palau de Congressos de Palma.
In the category of adapted sports, Nil Riudavets (triathlon) and Isabel Shihuaying de la Cruz (swimming) were awarded, and Alejandro Prats (motor boating) and María de los Ángeles Moreno (canoeing), also from the Real Club Náutico del Port de Pollença, were chosen as promising sportsmen and women.
The ‘We put values into sport’ award went to Tòfol Castanyer (athletics), and the honorary award went to Cintia Rodríguez (artistic gymnastics). Likewise, Carlos Vicens (football) and Yolanda Llompart (artistic gymnastics) were selected as the best coaches, and the best teams were Xelska Islas Baleares Femenino (artistic gymnastics) and the Menorca Hestia Basketball Club.
In addition, six mentions for sporting merit were awarded to Bernat Xamena (triathlon), Álex Graneri (canoeing), Alba Torrens (basketball), Daniel Quesada (taekwondo), Irene Colomar (karate) and CD Manacor (football).
The jury was chaired by the Director General of Sports, Joan Antoni Ramonell, and included representatives from the four island councils, individual sports federations, team sports federations, the Official College of Graduates in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences, the Association of Journalists of the Balearic Islands (APIB), the Union of Journalists (SPIB), the Association of Professional Sports Managers and the Federation of Local Entities.
