The Balearic Islands reached this Thursday, August 19, the goal of 70% of the target population fully vaccinated. Seven months and twenty-four days have passed since December 27, 2020, the date the first doses began to be administered at the Oms-Sant Miquel residence (Palma). It was then that this goal was set.
Since that date, 1,450,013 doses have been administered to the target population, that is, people over twelve years of age. Of these, 805,027 have received the first dose and 727,605 are already fully vaccinated. This second figure represents that 70.3% of the population of the Balearic Islands has already been immunized. By age group, the percentages of the completely vaccinated population are as follows:
The local Ministry of Health appeals to people under 39 who have not yet received any dose to go to any center authorized to get vaccinated, with or without an appointment. It is important to remember that there are population groups, such as those between 20 and 39 years of age, that do not exceed 53% of people with a complete vaccination.
Since the vaccination campaign began, Health has followed the indications dictated by the Ministry of Health in the vaccination strategy: it began with the highest risk groups (users and staff of residences, health workers, special groups…) and From there, the rest of the population began to be vaccinated by age group. In addition, the Health Service of the Balearic Islands has carried out numerous actions and campaigns to improve access to vaccination: mass vaccination points or vaccine administration points in primary care centers, the Infovacuna information line, the page website to make an appointment BitCita and several calls to go to get vaccinated without an appointment.
