The number of housing permits in the Balearic Islands during the first half of the year, issued by the Official College of Architects, reached 2,161, the highest figure since 2008. This represents an increase of 42.3% compared to 2024. In Mallorca alone, 1,573 homes were permitted, surpassing the total figures for all the islands in 2023 and 2024. The rise in projects anticipates a significant boost in housing construction.

In addition to this construction upswing, the Balearic Islands are seeing strong growth in economic activity and tourism. Specifically, the GDP of the islands grew by 3.4% in the first quarter, above the Government’s forecast of 2.7%. Mallorca leads the growth with 3.6%, followed by the Pityusic Islands with 3.3%.
Tourism continues to be a key economic driver for the region. In the first six months of the year, tourist spending reached €8.744 billion, 6.1% higher than in 2024. The spending per person rose to €1,103 (+2.8%), while spending per person per day increased by 4.4%, reaching €193. During this period, 7.9 million tourists arrived, 3.2% more than last year.
The dynamism of tourism has boosted the service sector, with all activities positive except administrative services. Air traffic up to July reached 13.6 million passengers, 1.5% more than in 2024.
Growth of industrial production
Industrial production is also experiencing notable growth. The year-on-year increase was 5.4%, driven by capital goods, durable consumer goods, and energy, while the national average stood at 4.9%.
The labour market remains strong. In July, Social Security registrations rose by 2.6% year-on-year, reaching 655,966 people, with services and construction as the main drivers.
Finally, inflation in the Balearic Islands stood at 3.5% in July, above the 2.7% recorded for Spain as a whole.
