The Balearic Islands were the main destination in all of Spain for international tourists last June. A leadership that the area maintains for the third consecutive month with a total of 656,082 arrivals, 29.6% of the total. Almost 1 in 3 foreign visitors who arrived in Spain chose Mallorca, Menorca, Eivissa or Formentera, according to data published by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) through the Survey of Movements in Borders (Frontur).
Germany, France… and the Netherlands
The main source markets for the Balearic Islands in May were Germany (319,931 travelers) and France (37,626). However, a change in trend was observed in June and the second source market for the Balearic Islands became the Netherlands, with 58,040 travelers. It should be noted that national tourists also choose the islands: 30% of the visitors came from other Spanish communities.
In the accumulated of the year, the Balearic Islands already occupy the first position in reception of international visitors in absolute terms, with 656,082 tourists, and it is the only community that in the accumulated annual already registers more international tourism than 2020, specifically 89.6% more.
Cumulative tourist spending of 1,349 million
Since January, the accumulated expenditure of international tourists in the Balearic Islands has reached the figure of 1,349 million euros, 223.7% from the previous year and 23.4% more than the previous year and the only increase among the rest of the communities autonomous, where the fall exceeds 45%.
