Art Palma Contemporani (APC) is the association of professional gallery owners in Mallorca and is made up of ABA ART LAB, BARÓ, CCA Andratx, Galeria Fermay, Galeria Fran Reus, KEWENIG Palma, LA BIBI, L21 Gallery, Maior Pollença, Galeria Pelaires, Pep Llabrés Art Contemporani and Galeria Xavier Fiol. Once again this year, each of these galleries presents a unique and captivating proposal, ranging from emerging local artists to established international figures.

New spaces

Tube Gallery and, as independent spaces, TACA and STAIN projects, are also joining this 2024 edition. The institutional spaces included in the programme are: ADEMA Escuela Universitaria, Casal Solleric, CaixaForum Palma, Es Baluard, Fundació Mirò Mallorca, La Misericòrdia and Fundación Juan March Palma. This way, the association reiterates its desire to “create links with local institutions and to offer multiple perspectives on the excellent contemporary art on offer in Mallorca”, according to the APC.

In addition to the exhibitions in the galleries and other spaces in the capital, Art Palma Brunch 2024 also includes the cultural offer of the municipalities of Andratx and Pollença. In addition, the inclusion of complementary activities, such as the premiere of the documentary ‘Find an Offline Shelter’ (Friday 22nd March at 6 pm at Cineciutat), and free guided tours, conducted by professionals in several languages, further enriches the public’s experience and fosters a greater understanding and appreciation of contemporary art.

Prominent names on the national and international scene

In the twelve galleries of the APC there is an important presence of international artists with individual projects: Janina Frye and Robin Megannity in the Fran Reus Gallery; Jens Braun, Ingeborg Tysse and Pixy Liao in L21 Gallery, or duo shows such as those proposed by CCA Andratx with Stefan Rinck and Philip Grözinger, or KEWENIG Palma with Paloma Varga Weisz and Heinz Ackermans.

This edition also features the presence of many important artists from the Spanish art scene who will inaugurate their individual projects at this Art Palma Brunch, such as Eduardo Martín del Pozo at the Galería Fermay or Miquel Ponce at Fran Reus. The new paintings by Manu García at LA BIBI, as well as the exhibitions by Juan Giralt, at Pelaires, and Victoria Encinas, at the Galería Maior, are also generating great expectation. Pep Llabrés Art Contemporani presents a solo exhibition by the artistic duo 2MONOS, formed by Nicoletta Mantoan and Alejandro Dumon.

Local artists will also be present. Highlights include the exhibitions of the young Mallorcan artist Rosa Caterina Bosch Rubio, at the ABA ART LAb gallery; those of Girbent and Gabriel Pericàs at the Pelaires gallery, and Tomás Pizá at the Xavier Fiol gallery.

‘Disobedient Bodies: Without Gods or Patrons’

It is worth highlighting the great interest aroused by the proposal of the BARÓ gallery, with a wide-ranging collective exhibition that brings together great women artists of outstanding international relevance. This authentic investigation, curated by Rolando J. Carmona and entitled ‘Disobedient Bodies: Without Gods or Patrons’, proposes a selection of works by the artists Kubra Khademi, Citra Sasmita, Violeta Quispe, Rusudan Khizanishvili, Brandon Gercara, Esmeralda Kosmatopoulos, Tecla Tofano, Blanca Haddad, Maitha Abdalla and Amparo Sard.

Finally, the collaboration with renowned brands, such as Nivia, the luxury brand of Garden Hotels, demonstrates the event’s “commitment to the promotion of culture and art in all its forms”, according to the organisers.
