The façade of the Conselleria of Tourism, Culture and Sports was the target of a vandalism attack yesterday, Saturday, carried out by the youth organisation Arran. The group shared a video on its social media channels showing several hooded individuals spray-painting graffiti on the offices located on Carrer Montenegro in Palma, accusing tourism of being responsible for the local population’s “misery”.

In the same video, the activists also burn photographs of hotel business owners and political leaders, whom Arran accuses of being responsible for the social and economic situation of the islands. The footage clearly shows them throwing paint and spraying the message “Guilty of our misery” on the façade of the building, which is listed as a cultural heritage site.

Strong condemnation from the regional government

The regional government strongly condemned the incident and announced that it will file a report with the National Police, considering it an action that violates public heritage. “No disagreement justifies violence or attacks on the common good,” said the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Jaume Bauzà, who described the events as “a direct and absolutely intolerable attack.”

The minister defended the right to criticism but insisted that respect and coexistence are essential to protect both the economy and the social fabric of the archipelago. “Tourism is not misery. Tourism is the driving force behind the solutions,” he stated.
