The Official College of Architects of the Balearic Islands (COAIB) organizes Architecture Week 2021. Coinciding with World Architecture Day, which is celebrated on the first Monday in October of each year, the program of activities brings together cinema, exhibitions, workshops and conferences from September 30 to October 14. Citizens will be able to participate in these events related to culture, training and entertainment for all audiences.
Architecture Week 2021 kicks off on September 30 with the screening of “The money pit” at CaixaForum Palma. The film, produced by Steven Spielberg, marked the beginning of the director’s cinematic collaboration with actor Tom Hanks. It will be at 7:00 p.m. in Plaça de Weyler. The ticket price is 6 euros (3 euros for members and clients of La Caixa).
On Friday 1 and Saturday 2 of October, the agenda moves to Menorca with the exhibition “Journey to the architecture of the 60s – 80s in Menorca”. In it, the most significant works of that period will be announced.
The COAIB headquarters, in Carrer de la Portella 14, will host the Urban Sketchers Day on Saturday, October 2. An appointment for all drawing lovers who want to have a good time tracing, representing, illustrating, sketching on paper Ca la Torre, the COAIB headquarters in Palma. Each participant must go with their own material to the patio of Ca la Torre at 10:30 am.
European Landscape Congress
On October 6 and 7, within Architecture Week 2021, the European Landscape Congress will be held. Throughout the two days, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., experiences of public policies aimed at protecting the landscape will be presented. The congress can be viewed live on YouTube.
On Thursday 7th, the architect Antoni Barceló will act as a guide through different buildings designed by his studio, Barceló Balanzó arquitectes. The itinerary includes the Center d’Estudis de Posgrau – UIB (Edifici Antoni Maria Alcover i Sureda); CEIP Guillem Ballester i Cerdó de Muro; CEIP Molí d’en Xema and Escoleta Son Boga de Manacor, and the IES Damià Huguet de Campos.
The conference “Denmark: Domestic Architecture and Modernity” is the activity scheduled for Friday, October 8. In it, the architect Carmen García Sánchez will guide attendees through Danish domestic architecture from 7:00 p.m. at the COAIB headquarters.
Architecture Week 2021 continues on Saturday, October 9, with the architecture workshop “Això era i no era …”, aimed at boys and girls between 6 and 12 years old. Finally, on Thursday, October 14, the conference of TEd’A arquitectes will take place in the demarcation of COAIB – Eivissa-Formentera.
